TDK Corporation expands its Micronas embedded motor controller portfolio with the HVC 4420F, featuring extended flash memory for the drive of small brush-type, stepper, or brushless motors. It is designed to satisfy the latest needs of the automotive industry to provide diagnostics capability newly introduced in the field of smart actuators. Samples will be available in March 2019. Start of production is planned for 2020.

Sensor programming tool designed for Hall-effect sensors
TDK Corporation has expanded its tool chain for the easy programming of various Micronas Hall-effect sensors with the Magnetic Sensor Programmer MSP V1.0. It replaces the APB 1.5 and complements the existing programmer line, which comprises the USB-Programming Kit V1.01 and the HAL APB V5.1. These programmers are especially designed for use in the development laboratory.

Low profile power inductors for advanced driver assistance systems
TDK Corporation has announced the MLD2012 series of multilayer inductors for automotive power circuits. The new components that are based on a ferrite core are available in a compact IEC 2012 (EIA 0805) package with a footprint of 2.0x1.25mm and an insertion height of just 0.5mm. The power inductors, which are qualified to AEC-Q200, offer inductance values ranging from 0.47-47µH and rated currents from 750-1,200mA.

3D transponder coils for automotive PEPS systems
With the introduction of a new type that features an operating frequency of 22kHz, TDK has extended its B82453C*A* series of 3D transponder coils. The new component (B82453C0335A022) complements the existing spectrum designed for a frequency of 125kHz and is suitable for automotive passive entry passive start (PEPS) and other access systems based on the lower frequency.

Compact automotive feedthrough filter offers 1µF capacitance
Global electronics company, TDK, has extended its lineup of 3-terminal feedthrough filters for automotive applications. The new YFF18AC0J105M type is available in an IEC 1608 package (EIA 0603) with compact dimensions of 1.6x0.8x0.6mm and features what is supposedly the industry’s highest capacitance of 1µF for a feedthrough filter of its size. The component offers a rated current of 2A and a rated voltage of 6.3V.

Compact sensor dies for automotive and IoT applications
New miniaturised EPCOS MEMS pressure sensor dies have been announced by TDK. The automotive versions of the C33 series have dimensions of 1x1x0.4mm, making them what the company claims to be one of the smallest of their kind. They are designed for absolute pressures of 1.2-10 bar, and are qualified based on AEC-Q101. The typical operating voltage is 3V. With a supply voltage of 5V they offer sensitivities of between 15-80mV/bar, depending on the type.

Series of EPCOS z-axis transponder coils for passive entry, passive start (PEPS) car access systems have been presented by TDK Corporation. With their dimensions of just 7.7x7.4x2.65mm the components are extremely compact and feature a very low insertion height. The B82451L*E402 series comprises seven transponder coils covering an inductance range from 1.0-10.0mH.

Measuring in at a mere 2.0x1.6x1.0mm, the TDK TFM201610ALMA thin-film metal power inductor features the world's highest rated current of 1.9A for a power inductor of its size. Its rated inductance is 2.2 µH.

Designed for measuring temperatures up to 650°C, TDK has released an NTC sensor element offering high-precision measurement with a temperature tolerance of about ±1° at 200°C. The device is based on a high-temperature ceramic sensor element that is connected to a metallised aluminium oxide rod and then glass-encapsulated.

TDK Corporation has expanded its CLF-NI-D series of rugged power inductors for use in automotive electronics. The CLF7045NI-D wirewound SMD power inductors feature high efficiency and reliability over a temperature range of -55 to +150°C and offer rated inductance values from 1.0 to 470μH (E6 series). The CLF7045NI-D types are available for rated currents of 0.41 to 8.5A and offer DC resistance values ranging from 9mΩ to 1.20Ω.

Compact EPCOS SMT transponder coils have been released by TDK. Measuring just 4.5x3.2x3.2mm, the TC1812 has an inductance of 2.38mH and is designed for operation in the Z-axis. The TC1210 coil is available with an inductance value of 1.08mH or 1.34mH, depending on type, and is suitable for operation in either the X- or Y-axis. According to the company, the TC1210 is the world’s smallest transponder coil, measuring just 3.2x2.5x2.2mm.

Suitable for use as a DC link capacitor in EV and HEV applications, TDK has announced a power capacitor with an innovative ring configuration, the RingCap. The device can be integrated into a clutch bell housing or wheel hub motors and its dimensions can be adapted according to the specific requirements of the customer: the outer diameter may be up to 315mm, while its width is no more than 50mm.

EV heating element self-regulates, ensuring stability
In contrast to traditional heating elements for conventional 12V onboard power supplies, TDK's recently-released EPCOS PTC heating elements are designed for the considerably higher voltages found in EV batteries. The rated voltages of these heating elements range from 200 to 500V, producing surface temperatures of up to 250°C. Depending on design, these heating elements are suitable for safe operation at up to 1000V.

Designed for use in automotive electronics, the CLF6045NI-D series of wirewound SMD power inductors has been released by TDK. Operating across a temperature range of 55 to +150 °C, the components offer rated inductance values of 1.0-470μH (E6 series). The power inductors, which measure 6.3x6.0x 4.5mm, are available for rated currents of 0.28- 6.7A and offer DC resistance values ranging from 1.1mΩ to 1.30Ω.
