Automotive kick-to-open using TI mmWave sensors
Unlike other sensing technologies, TI mmWave sensors can detect a kick from up to 1m and due to its wide field of view, the AWR1642BOOST-ODS evaluation kit allows the user to kick from multiple directions around the sensor.
The kick doesn’t have to be right underneath the sensor to get a positive detection. mmWave sensors are more accurate when compared to other solutions in the market and random movement around the sensor does not trigger any positive detection.
The reference software uses artificial neural network to classify only a human kick gesture as a positive detection. mmWave sensors can be easily integrated behind the car bumper without the need to drill any holes.
They are also immune to challenging weather conditions like rain, snow or mud.
