Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. today introduced a new series of HI TMP TANTAMOUNT surface-mount solid tantalum chip capacitors that are the industry’s first such devices to offer a capacitance value of 10 µF at 12 V or 21 V and 500 hours of continuous operation at +200°C, without the need for voltage derating. The closest competing device offers a maximum operating voltage of only 5 V.

Microchip Expands 8-bit PIC® Microcontroller Portfolio With New 20-pin Family

Microchip Technology Inc today announced an expansion of its existing 28-/40-pin PIC16F72X microcontroller (MCU) family with two new 20-pin devices—the PIC16F(LF)720 and PIC16F(LF)721. The new MCUs feature low power consumption, making them suitable for various low-power and battery-powered applications. These MCUs offer up to 7 KB of self-write Flash program memory, a temperature-indicator module, an 8-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), a capture/compare PWM module, and various serial communication peripherals, such as I2C™, SPI and AUSART. The highly-integrated MCUs enable engineers to reduce board size, component count and overall cost for a variety of applications in the appliance (e.g. blenders, refrigerators, dishwashers); consumer/home electronic (e.g. TV remote controls, toys, phones, set-top boxes); industrial (e.g. digital water heaters, security systems, humidity sensors); and automotive (remote lock systems, power seats, level sensors, lighting control) markets, among others.

Atmel Launches Integrated Gate Driver ICs for Automotive BLDC Motor-control Applications

Atmel® Corporation today announced the availability of the new set of highly-integrated system basis gate driver ICs. The Atmel ATA6843 and ATA6844 devices are new members of the company's extensive gate driver family designed for 3-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motor control applications including turbo chargers, waste gates, EGR, pumps, fans, power window, power doors and power seats. They feature six-output stages for direct motor control when combined with an Atmel AVR® microcontroller (MCU), and an on-chip Atmel automotive LIN transceiver IP for in-car communication.

Linear Technology Corporation announced the LT3688, a dual 800mA, 36V input step-down switching regulator with dual power-on reset and a watchdog timer. The LT3688’s 3.8V to 36V input voltage range makes it ideal for load dump and cold crank conditions commonly found in automotive applications. Its dual 1.2A internal switches deliver up to 800mA of continuous output current from each channel at output voltages as low as 0.8V.

High Voltage Isolated Monolithic Flyback Regulator Simplifies Design & Eliminates Optocoupler
Linear Technology announced the LT3512, a high voltage isolated monolithic flyback regulator that significantly simplifies the design of an isolated DC/DC converter. No optocoupler, third winding or signal transformer is required for feedback since the output voltage is sensed from the primary-side flyback signal. The LT3512 operates over a 4.5V to 100V input voltage range, has a 420mA, 150V power switch and delivers up to 4.5 watts of output power, making it well suited for a wide variety of telecom, datacom, automotive, industrial and medical applications.

36V with 60V Transient Protection, Dual Tracking 3.5A(IOUT), 2.25MHz Step-Down DC/DC Converter

Linear Technology has announced the LT3692, a monolithic, dual output step-down switching regulator that can deliver up to 3.5A of continuous output current from each channel. It operates from a VINrange of 3V to 36V with transient protection to 60V, making it ideal for load dump and cold-crank conditions found in automotive applications. Independent input, shutdown, feedback, soft-start, current limit and comparator pins for each channel simplify complex power supply tracking/sequencing requirements. The LT3692's switching frequency is user programmable from 250kHz to 2.25MHz, enabling the designer to optimize efficiency while avoiding critical noise-sensitive frequency bands.
