Research project focuses on adaptive forward lighting systems to increase driver and passenger safety. Adaptive forward lighting, in other words, glare-free camera-controlled headlamps that react instantly to changing conditions at night, will be helping to keep drivers and their passengers safer, as a consortium of high-tech automotive heavyweights design and build additional intelligent functions. The key to this complex functionality is the integration of microelectronics and optoelectronics – one of the principal aspects of the research project sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (FMER). Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. announces the addition of a new LED driver IC to complement their existing automotive qualified LED driver IC portfolio. Allegro’s A6269 is a linear, programmable current regulator providing up to 200 mA from each of two outputs to drive arrays of high brightness LEDs. This device is designed for the automotive market with end interior lighting applications to include: map and dome lighting, glove box, vanity mirror, door (puddle lamp) and trunk lights.

Infineon Introduces Innovative LED Drivers Enabling Automotive RGB Ambient Lighting at Lowest Development Effort

Infineon Technologies AG today introduced its LINLED driver family for automotive applications. The new TLD73xxEK system-on-chip devices make it possible to implement attractive multicolor ambient lighting based on RGB (Red-Green-Blue) blending to produce a broad range of interior colors with predefined color points. The integrated LIN transceiver reduces wiring requirements by 25 percent (from 4 to 3 wires), while pre-programmed control of blending and dimming means no additional software development is necessary by the system manufacturer.

The new Oslon Black Flat LED from Osram Opto Semiconductors is a high-performance light source for automotive front lighting systems that offers high light output at high currents, uniform light distribution, thermal stability and exceptionally good contrast for seeing and being seen. Equipped with state-of-the-art chip and packaging technology and a ceramic converter (part of Osram’s new C2 Ceramic Conversion Technology), this new LED is the latest addition to Osram’s Oslon Black series of compact, robust LEDs for automotive and industrial applications. It was introduced as a prototype in September 2011 at the International Symposium on Automotive Lighting and is now commercially available.

ROHM Semiconductor has recently announced its new ultra-high-bright PLCC4 LED SML-Y1 Series for optimum light emission, reliability and power efficiency. Featuring 4 pins, the series is the latest addition to the PLCC line-up. While providing the same guaranteed oper¬ating temperature range (-40°C to 100°C), its derating characteristics have been significantly enhanced compared to PLCC 2 packages. A gold-plated frame is utilized for superior sulfuration resistance.
