OSRAM Opto Semiconductors showcased two new LED prototypes for headlights in the shape of the OSLON Black Flat and the OSRAM OSTAR Headlamp Pro. Both combine new chip and package technologies and are equipped with a ceramic converter. Their strengths include high light output even at high currents, a uniform light pattern, thermal stability and a particularly good contrast ratio

With the E522.3x chips, ELMOS introduces a new LED controller family. The ICs are designed for input voltages between 5V and 55V and an output voltage of up to 60V in boost mode, and they can be operated – depending on the type – in single and/or dual LED chain mode.

New Automotive Led Driver From Supertex Reduces Board Space While Improving System Reliability
Supertex, Inc today introduced AT9919, an LED lamp driver integrated circuit, designed specifically for solid-state lighting applications in automobiles, such as head lights, tail lights, brake indicator lights, dome lights, and panel backlights. AT9919 is AEC-Q100 compliant, and drives LEDs using a buck topology. It is available in a compact, eight-lead, DFN package.

Gentex Corporation announced that its SmartBeam high-beam assist system is now available on the new 2011 Audi A7. The A7, a five-door coupe, is sold worldwide. SmartBeam (called Fernlichtassistent in German) is available in the European markets.

Renesas Electronics Introduces Three New Intelligent Power Devices for Automotive Lighting Applications
Renesas Electronics America Inc today announced three new intelligent power devices (IPDs), the µPD166011, µPD166013 and µPD166014, for use in automotive lighting systems for turn signals and brake light applications. The new IPDs integrate into a single package, power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (Power MOSFETs) as switching elements and control circuits for protection and self-diagnostic functions.

SnapLED, the automotive industry’s most widely used LED for signaling applications, has been significantly improved by Philips Lumileds. With a continued focus on reliability and performance, engineers have raised junction temperature maximums, narrowed color binning to levels imperceptible by the human eye, dual-binned for drive current to simplify the design process and make it easier to meet critical regulation requirements, and implemented a new Multi-Environment Over Stress Test (MEOST) regimen to ensure SnapLED is the most reliable automotive LED.
