The new smart brushless DC (BLDC) actuator 5846 Series is a high performance electronically commutated actuator specifically developed for large diesel engines applications aimed at controlling emissions. This powerful actuator delivers peak torque values beyond 6 Nm in a very light and compact housing. Therefore its outstanding compactness makes it easy to integrate in narrow engine compartment. This new smart BLDC actuator features an integrated CAN bus control electronics and can operate in a supply voltage range between 9V and 32V. In the event of power failure and in order to prevent dysfunctions, an integrated return-to-zero spring is included. The failsafe position is customizable.
The brushless DC actuator is an actuator delivering short positioning times, while providing positioning accuracy for finer flow control. With integrated position sensor and electronics drive, it acts as a modular and compact stand-alone actuator. It offers thereby high design flexibility. Thanks to its wide torque range it represents an ideal off-the-shelf motion system for any valves requiring smart actuation. Typical applications in medium- and heavy-duty engines are: air admission and exhaust gas applications (EGR, air charging, etc.), variable valve timing (VVT), cam phasing and front-module flaps. High reliability and service life is guaranteed all over a large operating temperature range, varying from -40°C to 140°C. This motion solution suits applications running in harsh environments with minimum allotted space, and it can contribute to tally to environmental norms such as e.g. EPA or Euro.
