SMSC today announced that the Media Oriented Systems Transport networking technology, the de facto standard for high bandwidth infotainment networking in the car, has been selected as the backbone of the infotainment system of the new Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class and CLS-Class models.
MOST is the standard network for the infotainment systems across nearly the full range of Mercedes volume platforms. More than 100 cars worldwide have been equipped with MOST Technology so far.

We are pleased that MOST has been selected again by Daimler for its line of high-performance Mercedes-Benz SLK- and CLS-Classes, which are flagships of their global fleet, said Dr. Christian Thiel, Vice President and General Manager of SMSC's Automotive Information Systems group. Daimler launched its first Mercedes-Benz model with MOST in 2002.

The MOST Cooperation along with SMSC, one of its members, have continuously worked to improve the MOST technology to meet Daimler's strict requirements for transmission performance and reliability. As a result of its performance, quality and reliability, MOST is the chosen infotainment network for these widely sold models.

MOST multimedia networking technology enables the networking of feature-rich infotainment systems in automobiles by providing the means to distribute multimedia entertainment functions among the various control devices around the car. For example, a CD- or DVD changer, radio, GPS-navigation, mobile telephone and digital media-interfaces can supply signals to this efficient ring network. The signals are sent digitally and static-free to the amplifier and monitors.
