The new RAS 1575 combines the highest quality performance and reliability in a tiny, compact housing measuring just three centimetres tall and one a half centimetres in diameter, making it ideal for aftermarket fitment on applications across many sectors, as well as for use on mobile devices (ii).

“The secret to Hirschmann’s tiny antenna is the use of Telit’s new SE 88GPS module,” explained Laurie Burns, head of the Solutions business unit at Hirschmann Car Communication.

Integration of the GPS module in the tiny antenna clearly is the culmination of a good deal of hard work by both businesses and clearly shows how the competencies of leading manufacturers in the high-frequency and module development sectors perfectly complement each other.

With magnetic installation, the tiny antenna is quick to set up and easy to use. For convenience, it is powered by a Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 connection and most importantly, the reception data is impressive; following cold start, it takes less than 35 seconds to receive messages (iii).

Laurie continued: “Its size means it offers the ideal retrofit transmission solution across many sectors; in smaller telematics applications within the transport and logistics sectors, as well as in large systems such as traffic control systems, for example. And with its low current consumption, the antenna is also ideal for mobile applications.”

During development we focussed on four main areas: reception quality; compact dimensions; installation and integration flexibility and robustness. We feel that the RAS 1575 does indeed meet all four objectives, he concluded.
