Tyre condition problems are the single biggest reason for breakdowns and accidents in commercial vehicles. Empowering fleet managers to take control of this issue, tyre pressure monitoring specialist TyrePal has launched its TeleTPMS system, a tool specifically designed for the remote monitoring of commercial vehicle tyre pressure.

Suitable for fleets of HGVs, buses, coaches and trailers, the TeleTPMS system enables managers to regulate entire fleets of commercial vehicles remotely.

Removing the need to rely on drivers to monitor tyre pressure, the TeleTPMS smart module communicates and transmits tyre pressure and temperature measurements to a remote database. This valuable data is accessible to the fleet manager through desktop, tablet or web application. Providing the fleet manager with visualisation of all fleet vehicles, the TeleTPMS system uses coloured displays to indicate the performance of each vehicle and its tyres. Vehicles that require attention will deliver an automated warning to fleet managers, potentially saving thousands in accident and breakdown costs.

TyrePal’s TeleTPMS continuous monitoring, which operates while the vehicle is in motion and when stationary, practically eliminates a potential blowout or tyre fire. Even in the event of a small puncture, warnings will be issued so that action can be taken before a tyre is permanently damaged. What’s more, Tyrepal's TeleTPMS allows fleet managers to remotely monitor the location of every vehicle in their fleet - a valuable advantage in the event of a road accident or emergency.

“There is a common misconception that tyre failures in commercial vehicles are unavoidable,” explained Peter Tillotson, business development manager of TyrePal. “Tyre blowouts, as an example, are widely considered to be unpredictable accidents, but they don’t just happen. The original cause could be side-wall damage, an overloaded tyre or even just a small, slow puncture. When the vehicle is in motion, these small problems could lead to a dangerous tyre burst or fire.

“Tyre pressure monitoring is often overlooked by fleet managers. However, regular monitoring of tyre pressure can reduce the probability of a blowout – and other tyre related accidents – significantly. TyrePal’s TeleTPMS collects temperature and pressure data from tyres every few seconds and transmits this data directly to the fleet manager, reducing the risks of an accident caused by underinflated or damaged tyres.”
