Allowing magnetic switching thresholds to be configured (including hysteresis), the MLX92231 and MLX92211 digital Hall effect sensors from Melexis are factory pre-programmed to precise Hall effect switch or latch specifications. This enables tailored results that match the customer’s specific application requirements without the cost usually associated with custom solutions.

Operating over voltage and temperature ranges from 2.7-24V and -40 to +150°C, respectively, the AEC-Q100 qualified MLX92231 and MLX92211 are suitable for demanding industrial and automotive applications including seat positioning systems, clutch position sensors, brake light sensors, robotics, factory automation equipment, material handling, valve positions and process controls. The MLX92211 targets applications requiring Hall effect latch magnetic characteristics, while the MLX92231 supports applications for Hall effect switch magnetic behaviour.

Ddifferentiating them from other Hall effect sensor solutions on the market, the MLX92231 and MLX92211 both feature a low voltage capability which allows them to interface with microcontrollers and other digital ICs placed on supply lines at <3V. By not requiring a serial resistor or diode on the supply line, the built-in reverse voltage protection feature allows even remote sensors to be specified for low voltage operation down to 2.7V while still being reverse voltage tolerant. Both sensors also feature a 32 bit unique ID code to give lifetime traceability, EEPROM memory, output current limit, under-voltage lockout and thermal shutdown to ensure on-going reliability while lowering the overall bill of materials required.

The MLX92231 and MLX92211 ICs are constructed on a proprietary mixed signal CMOS process technology, integrating a Hall sensor element with advanced offset cancellation mechanism, a voltage regulator and an open-drain output driver. The programmable architecture enables high accuracy switching thresholds and an integrated factory programmed thermal compensation value to be set. Avoiding complex and expensive temperature testing, these features simplify the manufacture of precision, thermally stable sensor modules using low cost magnet materials.

The digital Hall effect sensor ICs are supplied in industry standard 3-pin SIP and TSOT23 packages.
