Reducing switching losses and over-dissipation in automotive and telecomms applications, eight 2 and 3A FRED Pt Ultrafast recovery rectifiers have been announced by Vishay Intertechnology. Featuring extremely fast and soft recovery characteristics, low-leakage current and low-forward voltage drop, the rectifiers are supplied in the compact, low-profile SlimSMA (DO-221AC) eSMP series package.

The Vishay Semiconductors FRED Pt rectifiers offer reverse voltages of 100 and 200V, reverse recovery time down to 25ns for the 2A and 30ns for the 3A devices, and typical forward voltage drop of 0.74V for the 2A and 0.72V for the 3A devices. With a compact footprint and low profile of less than 1mm, the SlimSMA saves significant PCB space compared to standard SMA, SMB, and SMC packages, while increasing power density to lower overall costs.

The AEC-Q101 qualified rectifiers are optimised for DC/DC converters in automotive engine control units (ECU), antilock braking systems (ABS), and LED lighting, in addition to telecomms DC/DC bricks. The devices feature a planar structure and platinum-doped lifetime control to guarantee high overall performance, ruggedness, and reliability characteristics in these applications. The components offer an operating junction temperature up to +175°C for a more robust design.

The devices provide an MSL moisture level of 1 per J-STD-020, LF maximum peak of +260°C, meet the JESD 201 class 2 whisker test, and are RoHS compliant and halogen-free. The rectifiers are suited for automated placement and allow for automated optical inspection (AOI) in automotive systems.

Samples and production quantities of the new FRED Pt rectifiers are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
