Analog Devices wins award for DC/DC controllers

Analog Devices has won the 2019 UK Electronics Industry Automotive Product of the Year Award for its LT8708 series bidirectional synchronous buck-boost DC/DC controllers. According to the Electronics Industry Awards judges, the LT8708 ‘shows innovation and demonstrates technical capabilities and usefulness that stand out from other automotive products’.

The award was presented to Shalini Palmer, Analog Devices’ EMEA Sales Director for Mobility, at the 2019 Electronics Industry Awards event (London, 21st June).

Palmer, said: “For Analog Devices to win such a prestigious automotive award is testament to the critical role that we are playing in the re-shaping of automotive power management technology. The Electronics Industry Awards recognised Analog Devices’ innovation in power conversion technology, and our automotive customers are benefiting from similar breakthroughs in autonomous driving, cabin electronics, MEMS safety and security, EV and HEV powertrains as well as power management.

“Having recently accepted the role of EMEA Sales Director for Mobility, I’m really looking forward to helping our automotive customers take advantage of the full range of Analog Devices technologies, solutions and services that will help them to design safer, greener and more comfortable vehicles.”

The LT8708 is a high-performance buck-boost switching regulator controller which supports bidirectional power conversion in battery/capacitor back-up systems. With a wide 2.8V-80V input and 1.3V to 80V output range, the LT8708 offers automotive system designers great flexibility: it may be used to regulate the input or output current in both forward and reverse directions, or the input or output voltage.

The device’s flexibility also extends to the selection of power-conversion modes: discontinuous conduction mode (DCM), continuous conduction mode (CCM), hybrid conduction mode (HCM) and Burst Mode operation may all be selected via the MODE pin.

Jackie Rutter, Analog Devices’ EMEA Marketing Director presented the Internet of Things product of the Year award.

Rutter explained: “Industry 4.0 promises exponential improvements in productivity, flexibility and safety by harnessing big advances in edge-to-cloud computing, analytics, software configurable systems, and more.

“The wide range of ADI analog to digital capabilities – sense, measure, connect, interpret, power and secure – combined with our deep domain expertise make us an invaluable ally in solving the today’s toughest cyber-physical challenges with a future-ready pathway for tomorrow. I am delighted to present the IoT Product of the Year award and explore some of the ways we can help our customers make the move from now to next, smarter and faster than ever imagined possible.”

Analog Devices was also ‘highly commended’ in the Power Product of the Year category in the Electronics Industry Awards. The commendation was for the LTC3310S, a 10A step-down converter which uses the Silent Switcher 2 architecture to achieve both low EMI and high efficiency at switching frequencies as high as 5MHz.
