ON Semiconductor introduced a new adjustable output non-synchronous boost controller for automotive systems. The NCV8871 is a wide input voltage device, with a range of 3.2 volts (V) to 44 V, which can be used to drive an external N−channel MOSFET. The device incorporates an internal regulator that supplies charge to the gate driver.

42V Input with 55V Transient Protection, 2MHz Dual Channel Step-Down Regulator with Power-On Reset & Watchdog Timer

Linear Technology Corporation announces the LT3641, a dual channel, current mode step-down switching regulator with a power-on reset and watchdog timer. Its 4V to 42V input voltage range with 55V transient capability makes it ideal for load dump and cold crank conditions commonly found in automotive applications which require constant output regulation even with input transients as high as 55V. The LT3641 uses a unique dual channel design with a high input voltage (4VIN to 42VIN, 55VIN transient capability) nonsynchronous channel, which delivers 1.3A of output current combined with a lower input voltage (2.5VIN to 5.5VIN) synchronous channel, delivering up to 1.1A of continuous output current. Although the part allows separate inputs for each channel, most applications will use the output of the high voltage channel to power the lower voltage channel, offering dual outputs while optimizing efficiency and switching frequency. For example, using a nominal 12V input and a 2MHz switching frequency, the LT3641 can deliver a 3.3V output at 600mA with 85% efficiency via its high voltage channel and a 1.8V output at 800mA with 90% secondary conversion efficiency via its lower voltage channel.

XP Power extends family of COTS DC-DC converters aimed at military vehicle and avionic applications
XP Power today introduced the MTC35 and MTC50 series of commercial off the shelf (COTS) 35 W and 50 W DC-DC converters aimed at a broad range of military vehicle and avionics applications. These extremely robust and encapsulated board mounted modules accommodate a wide input range from 10 to 40 VDC, and can handle transients up to 50 VDC for up to 100 ms. Single output modules are available with + 3.3, + 5, + 12, + 15 or + 28 VDC outputs and can be adjusted between -20% and +10% via an external trim pin.

Texas Instruments Incorporated introduced the industry's first fully integrated battery protection and cell-balancing solution for Li-Ion and lithium iron phosphate battery packs. The bq77910 battery management and protection device can manage 4- to 10-cell battery packs, and two devices can be stacked to protect 11- to 20-cell packs. The device simplifies battery pack designs for e-bikes, e-scooters, portable gardening tools, power tools and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) and can also be used when replacing lead acid batteries. Synchronous Step-Down DC/DC Controller Using Nonlinear Control & Differential Output Sensing for Tight Output Voltage Regulation
Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC3867, a fixed frequency synchronous step-down DC/DC controller with nonlinear control, differential output voltage sensing and clock synchronization. Nonlinear control minimizes the output voltage excursion during load transient events by increasing the operating frequency, allowing the LTC3867 to recover from a large load step in only a few cycles. This feature reduces the maximum deviation from nominal by up to 50% compared to traditional controllers. The LTC3867’s 4V to 38V input range encompasses a wide variety of applications including most intermediate bus voltages. Strong onboard N-channel MOSFET gate drivers allow the use of high power external MOSFETs for high load current, up to 25A. The output voltage range is 0.6V to 14V, making the LTC3867 ideal for telecom, datacom, automotive and industrial applications.
