Stadler chose Powernet in part due to light weight of 3kW DC/DC converter and its robust power supply unit which is designed to power electronics and batteries. The mechanical construction also allows easy installation ad the robust electrical design is a perfect match for demanding railway applications. As a whole the form fits into its function and design comes along with moderate price level. The Powernet solution is scheduled for start-up from mid 2010 and last until the end of 2011.

Atmel Releases Automotive-qualified 32-bit AVR MCU Family for Motor Control Applications

Atmel® Corporation today announced the release of the Atmel UC3C AT32UC3C0512C AVR microcontroller with 512KB of embedded flash memory. As a committed supplier to the automotive industry, Atmel continues to bring new automotive-qualified microcontroller (MCU) solutions to market. This device is the first member of a 32-bit AVR MCU family dedicated to motor control applications such as HVAC, power window, power doors and power seats, featuring PWM controller and analog functions on-chip for direct motor control, as well as automotive interface on-chip (CAN, LIN) for in-car communication. The new Atmel AVR UC3C family will also be available as true 5V devices up to 125°C.

A123 Systems Selected to Develop Battery Pack for New Electric Vehicle from Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation

A123 Systems today announced that it has been selected to develop battery packs for a new, 2012 model year electric passenger car from Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), the largest automaker in China. Under the terms of the letter of intent, A123 will use its cells to develop a customized battery pack that it will provide to Advanced Traction Battery Systems Co. (ATBS), the joint venture established between A123 and SAIC Motor Co. Ltd., for production.

With the SB LiMotive joint venture now manufacturing lithium-ion battery cells in Ulsan, Korea, Bosch can offer all the key components for electric powertrains. The SB LiMotive cells, which are used for power storage, are another component in addition to the electric motors and power electronics that Bosch already produces in series for hybrid vehicles. Bosch is also increasingly investing in the development of powertrain technology for all-electric vehicles.

Green Hills Software compilers produce record EEMBC automotive benchmark results

Green Hills Software has announced that its optimising compilers for Power Architecture were used by Freescale Semiconductor for certified, published Embedded Microprocessor Benchmark Consortium (EEMBC) Automark™ scores for their 32-bit Qorivva™ MPC5566, MPC5607B, MPC5644A, and MPC5674F microcontrollers. The results for the MPC5674F are the highest Automark scores ever achieved on an automotive microcontroller. The Green Hills compilers have been chosen for EEMBC published benchmark scores more than any other compiler and have attained the highest published scores in every EEMBC benchmark category.
