Expanding the CAP11XX RightTouch product portfolio, Microchip Technology has announced a new family of turnkey capacitive touch controllers, the CAP12XX family. Offering a wide variety of slider, button and proximity functionality, the six-member CAP12XX controller family make it easy for designers to add aesthetically pleasing, low-cost touch interfaces.

Available in 8- to 16-pin packages, the CAP12XX family serves a wide range of applications in consumer electronics, such as tablets, printers, audio players, small appliances and televisions; and in the automotive market for automotive interior controls, central stack and overhead lights; as well as other applications. Operating from 3.3V to 5V, the new family provides designers with improved proximity performance and it also offers a lower-cost option when integrated LED drivers are not required.

Complementing Microchip’s mTouch firmware-based solutions, the CAP12XX family forms part of Microchip’s input sensing portfolio offering turnkey and firmware solutions for keys/proximity and sliders, touch pads and touch screens, as well as 3D gesturing with GestIC Technology.

In support of the new turnkey family, Microchip has released the CAP1298 Evaluation Board (DM160223) and CAP1188 Evaluation Board (160222) priced at $89.99 each. Both are available now.

The CAP1203 and CAP1293 are available in 2 mm xm3 mm, 8-pin TDFN packages; the CAP1206 and CAP1296 are available in 3 mm x 3 mm, 10-pin DFN packages; and the CAP1208 and CAP1298 are available in 3 mm x 3 mm, 16-pin QFN packages. All six members of the CAP12XX family are available today for sampling and volume production.
