1000 Nissan VENUCIA EV's Chosen for Pilot Program in China

Nissan's joint venture in China, Dongfeng Motor Company, signed a contract to deliver 1,000 VENUCIA-branded electric vehicles for a pilot program conducted by Dalian Municipal Government by 2014. The VENUCIA EV concept was most recently showcased at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show this April.

Tesla Delivers first Model S Electric Sedan to Customers

Tesla Motors has announced that it has delivered Model S, the world's first premium electric sedan, to its first customers at an invitation-only event at the Tesla Factory in Fremont, California last week - approximately one month earlier than previously announced. The company plan to build 5,000 cars by the end of 2012, followed by 20,000 cars in 2013.

Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled its XJ_e engineering research vehicle at the Goodwood Festival of Speed – an experimental plug-in hybrid version of its luxury Jaguar XJ saloon, powered by Axeon. The battery provides the Jaguar XJ_e with a range of up to 40 km (25 miles) on electric power.

Research Programme Targets Next-generation Electric Motors For Luxury Automobiles
Next-generation electric motors for low carbon emission vehicles are the target of a new collaborative research programme to be led by Cobham Technical Services. The project, ‘Rapid Design and Development of a Switched Reluctance Traction Motor’, will also involve partners Jaguar Land-Rover and engineering consultancy Ricardo UK, and is co-funded by the Technology Strategy Board.

Fisker fights back

Fisker launched its hybrid sports car very late and its battery supplier A123 Systems has had quality problems necessitating an expensive major recall in stark contrast to the professionalism at Tesla, the pioneer in successful electric sports cars (though Tesla did recall 439 of its electric sports cars because of a possible fire hazard involving the 12-volt electrical system in 2010). An earlier Fisker recall this year concerned a software malfunction that affected its entertainment and navigation systems.

Hybrid bus drive systems in China move Maxwell forward
Supercapacitor leader Maxwell Technologies recorded total revenue of $39.2 million for the first quarter ended March 31, 2012. - a up 11% from the same period a year ago. Growth was driven not only by ultracapacitor sales of $22 million, which is up 3% from Q1 '11, but also by unusually strong sales of microelectronics and high-voltage capacitor products, which came in at $17.2 million - up 24% from last year's first quarter.
