The Dilemma of Fast Charging of Electric Vehicles

People like to see a lifebelt by the local river even though they may never use it. They certainly do not want to pay for one though. It is like that with the fast charging of cars. We all want to charge our electric car in the blink of an eye. Indeed, we may be happy to pay through the nose for that electricity when we are far away if the only alternative is to walk home or at least be late for an appointment. Many companies now offer fast chargers for on-road vehicles though very few have been installed. For instance, Japan has only installed 80 across the whole country.

First electric vehicle wireless charging trial for London

First electric vehicle wireless charging trial for London
The pre-commercial trial for the first Wireless Electric Vehicle Charging (WEVC) trial for London is expected to start in early 2012 and will involve as many as 50 electric vehicles (EVs). It is a UK and industry-leading initiative. Qualcomm is collaborating with the UK Government, as well as the Mayor of London's office and Transport for London (TfL) to deliver the trial. The trial will use Qualcomm wireless inductive power transfer technology that enables high-efficiency power transfer across a large air gap. It is very easy to use: the driver simply parks the vehicle in the usual way and the system automatically aligns for power transfer, making parking easier and charging hassle free.

Evonik presents the first-ever electrical sports car with a weight below 1,000 kg

Evonik presents the first-ever electrical sports car with a weight below 1,000 kg
The performance data of the lightweight electrical sports car Elise-E that Evonik Industries presents at the Car Symposium in Bochum are impressive: The vehicle weighs 950 kg, has a power of 150 kW, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. The top speed is limited to 200 km/h. The purpose of exhibiting the vehicle is to show the automotive industry what can be achieved with our expertise in chemicals, says Klaus Hedrich, Head of the Evonik Automotive Industry Team. Thanks to the combined use of innovative storage technology, lightweight components, and tires with reduced rolling resistance, the sports car is the first-ever model to weigh less than 1,000 kilograms. With the exhibit, Evonik is demonstrating that electrical cars, which are currently used primarily as city vehicles, can also be part of the sports car segment.
