The UK’s first driverless cars, designed to help commuters, shoppers and the elderly travel short journeys, were officially trialled on UK roads for the first time on Wednesday 11th February. Up to now, the scope for testing driverless cars has been limited, but as the Government considers changes to the Highway Code to allow public use, industry has been given the green light for testing on public roads.

Blind spot ADAS is available below premium segment

A radar sensor system, which monitors the blind spot in the car’s rear section, has been developed by Infineon Technologies and German automotive supplier, Hella. The radar scan detects moving objects even in poor weather and independent of the direction and speed of their motion. For precision, the system features antennas, which, for example, warn drivers of vehicles coming from behind when changing lanes.

Audi chooses Altera SOC FPGAs for driver assistance
Altera has announced that its SoC FPGAs have been selected for use in Audi’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) targeted for mass production. Audi and Austrian high-tech company TTTech chose the Altera Cyclone V SoC FPGA for its ability to increase system performance and enable the differentiated features Audi requires for piloted driving and parking.
