The MPC modular plug connector from Multi-Contact has been designed with the rail industry in mind. Suitable for power transmission in electric rail vehicles, its modular design gives it a wide range of applications.
Rated at 3600 V and up to 700 A, the units can be used for connecting transformers, traction motors, inverters and batteries as well as inter-carriage power links.

The MPC can combine up to 15 single pole power contacts, with up to five joined side by side in up to three layers. Versatility is enhanced by the availability of linear and right-angled connectors, making the units highly compact. Linear versions produce flat connectors, which are particularly suited for under-floor mounting.

A range of compatible insulators is available for various contact diameters, and cable cross-sections from 10 to 240 mm2 are accepted. Highly reliable, they are rated at IP67 when mated and provide over 500 mating cycles.

They are also vibration and shock tested in accordance with DIN EN 61373 as well as being corrosion resistant (240 h salt fog test in accordance with EN 60068-2-11). Termination can be by crimping or threaded contacts. Coding pegs can be fitted to prevent misconnection.

Being modular, the MPC connector system helps reduce costs in logistics, stock-keeping and maintenance.

As well as being designed for railways, metros, tramways etc, the connectors are suitable for other high current, high voltage applications where long term reliability is essential.
