It has been announced that Toshiba Memory Europe and OSR Enterprises (OSR), creator of the EVOLVER automotive platform, will extend their collaboration on OSR’s in-car Datacenter to enhance live data management and logging in cars. The cooperation will combine technical know-how and hopes to create a ‘Datacenter on Wheels’ with high-density and low-power solid state drives.
OSR’s EVOLVER is a high-performance central ‘AI brain’ for ultra-smart, autonomous and securely networked vehicles. The hardware and software platform reinvent the in-vehicle architecture, provides the computing power for the car of the future and operates as a central data hub which stores, processes and analyses real-time data for artificial intelligence and analytical insights. The data and information are crucial for autonomous driving, customised user-experiences and is the foundation for new automotive business models.
One of the elements supporting this capability is an advanced high-density in-car storage. The collaboration with Toshiba Memory Europe contributes to OSR’s ability to meet the increasing demand of its OEM customers for managing the growing amounts of data in a ‘Datacenter on Wheels’. The combination of the technologies ensures that the development cycles of OSR’s OEM customers are shortened, while retaining robustness for a solid development process.
Toshiba Memory’s Flash Technology features high performance, low latency and high-density solid-state drives. Toshiba Memory’s CM5 NVM Express (NVMe) is built with its latest 64 layer, three-bit-per-cell enterprise-class TLC (triple-level cell) BiCS FLASH, making today’s demanding storage environments possible. This, combined with selectable power modes in Toshiba Memory’s SSDs, allows the thermal performance and heat dissipation of the system to be improved. Additionally, optimal operation and data integrity is provided by its advanced power loss protection technology within the storage components in OSR’s ‘Datacenter on Wheels’.
Nir Elron, OSR’s Chief Business Development Officer, stated: “In the era of the data revolution, OSR’s EVOLVER enables car manufacturers to place the consumer in the centre of the next-generation digital experience. Toshiba’s high-capacity SSDs are integrated in some of our leading projects to meet our OEM customers' demands.
“We chose to utilise Toshiba Memory’s Flash technologies in some of our more challenging customers’ requests, as their high-capacity yet low power Flash drivers contributes to the data management and logging capabilities of the EVOLVER. Toshiba Memory's technology and their track record in the automotive industry make them a solid partner for the ‘Datacenter on Wheels’. The collaboration will be beneficial to our OEM customers.”
Paul Rowan, Vice President SSD Business Unit of Toshiba Memory Europe, explained: “Through OSR’s EVOLVER our NVMe based SSDs can be leveraged into new markets to effectively address big data demands. This collaboration enhances performance capabilities and creates new opportunities to leverage the power of data. We are excited that our high-performance NVMe SSDs combined with OSR’s elite EVOLVER technology create a unique segmental solution for carmakers around the world, an actual ‘Datacenter on wheels.”
