Designed for wireless connection between automotive equipment, such as car navigation systems and mobile devices, ALPS has introduced the UGZZF series. The Bluetooth/WLAN 'all in one' modules incorporate a Bluetooth stack, negating the need to attain Bluetooth SIG or regional radio certification, and a WLAN driver to enable WiFi connections without burdening the host CPU.

The UGZZF series operates over a temperature range from -40 to +85°C with a 1-3Mb/s transfer speed. By supporting wideband speech the modules enable higher quality sound for Bluetooth hands-free calls. The devices measure 28.0x29.0x7.2mm.

Supporting both Bluetooth and WLAN communication with a single package, the module meets the requirements of a wide range of customers and also helps to reduce the antenna and system design and testing, software development and certification workload of equipment manufacturers.

Smartphone functionality is being constantly enhanced and a shift from 3G to 4G LTE as the main communication standard has enabled high-speed, high-capacity data communication. Car navigation, display audio and other automotive systems incorporate Bluetooth comms for features such as hands-free calls and music playback using a smartphone or similar device. In recent years, however, WLAN is increasingly being added to enable high-speed comms with cloud networks via LTE-capable smartphones.
