Providing predictable, reliable results and easy implementation of in-car wireless connectivity, u-blox announces the ELLA-W1 series of compact, multiradio modules. Applications for the host-based, short-range transceiver modules include hands-free telephony, in-car hotspots, rear view cameras and GUI mirroring.

The ELLA-W1 series offers both simultaneous and independent communications over WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth V3.0 + HS and Bluetooth V2.1 + EDR. Integrating an MAC, baseband processor and RFFE, each module connects to its host via an SDIO 2.0 interface. The dual-band WiFi versions (2.4 and 5GHz) minimise interference problems from the crowded 2.4GHz band. Simultaneous STA and AP mode operation enables up to 8 WiFi clients to be connected concurrently.

The surface-mount, multiradio module has a 14.8x14.8mm footprint with a 2.5mm height. ELLA-W1 modules feature best-in-class radio performance, an operating temperature range from -40 to +85°C and automotive qualification to VW 80000/ISO 16750-4, as well as European, US and Canadian certifications.

Engineering samples and development kits are available now.
