Volvo Trucks Takes The Lead With Tomorrow's Wireless Road Trains
Using wireless technology to link a road train, in which a lead truck controls a convoy of vehicles driving behind it, is now technically feasible. The technology was demonstrated at the conclusion of the Safe Road Trains for the Environment (SARTRE) project, which Volvo Trucks participated in. Although it may take some time for wireless road trains to be part of everyday reality, the technology brought about through the project could be put to use for other purposes in order make our traffic environment considerably safer in the near future.

Cadence Announces Availability of Industry’s First Design IP and Verification IP for Ethernet-based Automotive Connectivity
Cadence Design Systems, Inc today announced the immediate availability of the industry’s first Automotive Ethernet Design IP and Verification IP (VIP) for the latest Automotive Ethernet Controllers. The standards-based Design IP and VIP support the latest Automotive Ethernet extensions as defined by the OPEN Alliance Special Interest Group (SIG). Together, both IP help speed today’s newest automotive requirements to market, including improvements to in-vehicle safety, comfort, and infotainment as well as reductions in network complexity and cabling costs. Implementation of these new capabilities is made faster and easier by the Cadence Media Access Controller (MAC) Design IP and VIP for Ethernet-based automotive connectivity.

Murata today announced the LBEL6Z2TXC wireless combination module aimed at automotive applications and utilizing an AEC-Q100 compliant chipset. Providing support for wireless LAN, Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) communications in addition to providing an FM radio receiver and GPS receiver the module measure just 24.6 x 18.0 x 3.0 mm.
