Highway safety improved as companies unite together

Safety came first when infrastructure support service leader Amey ordered a fleet of crane-equipped 3.5 tonne tippers for highways maintenance duties. The company invested in 80 new vehicles fitted with 250kg ‘Swinglift’ electric cranes by Penny Hydraulics, and tipping bodies Bevan Specialist Products.

Initially published in 2001, the Skills Gap Report which was published in partnership with Deloitte was a study which indicated a mismatch between the skills of available working people and the skills that the manufacturing industry required. The reports that followed confirmed that gap and showed an increasing mismatch of skills.

Falls from height were the most common cause of fatalities in 2013

According to Health & Safety Executive (HSE) statistics, falls from height were the most common cause of fatalities, accounting for nearly three in ten (29%) fatal injuries to workers in 2013 to 2014. In total, there were 5952 fatal, major or over seven day RIDDOR reportable accidents reported during this same time period as a result of working from height.
