Alps Electric has joined the Connected Motorcycle Consortium (CMC), a non-profit organisation striving to enhance powered two wheeler’s rider safety through research and development activities on C-ITS (Cooperative-Intelligent Transport Systems) for motorcycles. Together with other companies of the industry and technology-related associations, Alps Electric will actively contribute to the development of a prototype integrating this system by providing a V2X RF module.

Automotive switch enables high operating force
Japanese electronic components manufacturer ALPS Electric has developed the SKTQ series TACT Switch, which began mass production in December 2017. Today's automobile cabins are quieter than ever, as sounds like the noise of the engine running and the vehicle moving along the road have been reduced due to increasingly airtight chassis and the emergence of hybrid and electric vehicle technologies.

Long life and high operating force for automotive applications
Production of the new ‘SKPS Series’ TACT Switch, developed by ALPS Electric, began back in January, with Soft Operating Feel, which realises a high operating force together with a long operating life to make the product suitable for in-vehicle controls. Automobiles are equipped with a wide range of control switches that add to the comfort and safety of the vehicle. Typical examples are air conditioning controls in the centre console, audio-visual system controls located on the steering wheel, and switches enabling hands-free calls.

ALPS has included the reflow-compatible EC21C, EC28C and EC35CH series in its lineup of ring type encoders and will start mass producing the models in turn before the end of the year. The products are suitable for use as controls for HVAC and audio systems inside vehicles, as well as major home appliances. Dial-type devices are often used as controls for HVAC and audio systems inside vehicles and are increasingly fitted with an LCD or other display showing information such as the temperature.

Waterproof detection switch integrates resistors to save space
ALPS has developed the “SPVQD Series” Waterproof Detector Switch with internal resistors, suitable for detecting the opening and closing of automobile doors, trunks and hoods. Samples will be made available from September 2015. A growing number of vehicle models in today’s automobile market are equipped with idle stop (start–stop) systems that help to improve fuel efficiency.

Bluetooth/WLAN module enhances in-car connectivity
Designed for wireless connection between automotive equipment, such as car navigation systems and mobile devices, ALPS has introduced the UGZZF series. The Bluetooth/WLAN 'all in one' modules incorporate a Bluetooth stack, negating the need to attain Bluetooth SIG or regional radio certification, and a WLAN driver to enable WiFi connections without burdening the host CPU.

ALPS has announced that the SKTH series TACT switch is suitable for use in automotive electronics such as keyless entry systems and car audio systems, as well as home appliances, PCs and other consumer electronics. The switch series is available with an operating force of 1.4 or 3N and a stem length of 1.8 or 2.5mm.

Supporting 2G, 3G and LTE, ALPS ELECTRIC EUROPE has decided to market its UMDZ series LTE data communication module for automotive applications. Claimed by ALPS to be the world’s smallest module for automotive use, the 28.9x29.8x4.22mm device is suited for use in Europe, North America, China and Japan.

Switches used in control elements, such as starters or stop lamp on/off switching, of motorbikes, buggies, other sports mobiles, and agricultural equipment require high water resistance so they can be used in the rain or immersed in water. Demand for switches compatible with weak through to medium currents is also on the rise due to increasing use of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for items like stop lamps on motorbikes.
