Pi Innovo is the new name for the international organisation with a 25 year pedigree of excellence in electronic systems innovation for vehicle and related applications. Pi Innovo was formed after the recent management buyout of the UK and USA design engineering operations of the South African based Control Instruments Group, previously trading as Pi Shurlok.
The new senior management team have been key players in building the Pi Team reputation for excellence over many years. Andrew Kirk and Walter Lucking are the CEOs of the UK and USA operations, respectively, with Brandon Hucq as Group CFO.

The Pi Innovo mission is to be the acknowledged expert partner for providing consistently innovative electronics systems to all vehicle and related industries. This will continue to be achieved for new and established customers via Pi Team services and OpenECU products. The major difference is the ability to partner with many manufacturing facilities rather than being tied to an in-house facility.

Pi Team is the provision and management of multi-skilled teams that can perform any or all of the work required to develop a vehicle electronics system from concept to production. Pi Teams are built from well rounded engineering and commercial staff that have the expertise to work to the highest quality standards and the motivation to innovate by working collaboratively. Key to Pi Team success is the availability of both system engineering specialists and design engineers skills including the development of; platform software, model-based control strategies, applications software, electronics hardware and engineering for production.

OpenECU is a wide range of adaptable, field-ready products and intellectual property designed to accelerate electronics system development. The philosophy behind OpenECU is the creation of modular, reusable technology that is implemented to volume production standards and is fully “open” to custom configuration, adaption and further development. The OpenECU family includes; hardware modules, prototyping accessories, electronic circuit libraries, platform software, model-based control strategies and application software.

Pi Innovo is uniquely capable when tasked with innovating new concepts that require expertise in multiple system technologies and application domains. Our access to high quality system, software, hardware and prototyping IP enables a rapid proof of concept, closely followed by a smooth transition to validated production.

This valuable capability is facilitated by a long established, hands-on management team working with highly skilled engineers that are empowered to innovate. The extension of this management philosophy, combined with flexible engagement models, enables us to work with our customers collaboratively; creating real knowledge transfer. As a result, Pi Teams work equally effectively as additional specialist resource to established teams and as a fully capable electronic system partner.
Pi Innovo engages with internationally based customers from two full service design facilities, located in Cambridge, UK and Plymouth, MI, USA.

Pi Innovo pedigree
The “Pi” name has been used to represent excellence in vehicle electronics from the formation of Pi Research in 1986 with name changes by subsequent owners to Pi Technology, Pi Shurlok and now Pi Innovo.

At the core of all these companies has been a highly respected engineering team accumulating experience and intellectual property relating to all aspects of vehicle electronics development.
• From powertrain to infotainment
• From military vehicles to motorsport
• From concept to production.

Previous owners have included Ford Motor Company and volume electronics manufacturer, Control Instruments Group. Working at both these extremities of the electronics supply chain has created in depth knowledge of the processes required to take an innovative concept to high quality volume production and to maintain on-going supply chain relationships.
