STMicroelectronics today announced that Antonio Radaelli, Director of Navigation & Multimedia Business Unit, Automotive Infotainment Division, Automotive Product Group, will deliver a keynote speech on next-generation car infotainment systems at the 2011 Taipei International Automotive Electronics Forum.
In his keynote, Radaelli discusses major trends and challenges in the industry and explains how ST’s latest innovations will make the driving experience safer, greener and more fun.

Automotive semiconductor content overall is expected to grow by more than 10% every year through 2016, according to Strategy Analytics. The rise in global vehicle production and consumers’ demands for communications, entertainment and navigation is driving the infotainment semiconductor market value from $4 billion in 2009 to $7.2 billion in 2016, forecasts another market analyst iSuppli.

“At the forefront of automotive electronics, ST’s innovative solutions herald smarter, safer and greener cars,” said Radaelli. “In a market that is increasingly cost-driven and looking towards greater environmental and social responsibility, our multi-standard, super-integrated platform offerings make ST an ideal partner for next-generation car infotainment and navigation applications.”

ST’s car infotainment offering features the world’s first single-chip positioning device for multiple global navigation systems; a state-of-the-art multi-standard digital-radio receiver; and first-of-its-kind audio amplifiers for uninterrupted in-car entertainment.

The ability of ST’s newest positioning devices to acquire the position, velocity and time data from all major global navigation systems greatly improves the user position accuracy and navigation in poor satellite visibility conditions, such as in urban canyons.

Advancing the adoption by the car industry of digital radios across the world, ST’s multi-standard car-radio receiver can run in parallel and seamlessly switch between the legacy AM/FM and multiple digital radio signals. Such systems will enhance in-car listening experience with value-added services like synchronized streaming of textual and visual information, including real-time weather and traffic updates.

As car makers introduce features that improve fuel efficiency and carbon emissions, ST was first in production with a new generation of chips that allow in-car entertainment equipment in hybrid vehicles to operate without interruption as the engine is turned off and restarted. These innovative devices combine advanced start/stop capability with the hi-fi audio quality and outstanding ruggedness, enabling environment-friendly car-infotainment systems with no compromise in user experience.

Held in conjunction with AutoTronics, Taiwan’s largest Automotive event, the International Automotive Electronics Forum gathers professionals and pioneers from all over the world to discuss the future of automotive electronics. This year’s Forum takes place on April 12, 2011, at Room 504, Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall.
