Saft has received the 2012 Innovation Award from Scuderia Ferrari. The prize recognizes that Saft has made the highest overall contribution to innovation during the past year within Ferrari’s Gestione Sportiva, thereby helping to maximize the team’s results in the F1 Championship.
The award was presented to Saft by Corrado Lanzone, Director of Production, Marco Tozzi, Director of Purchasing and Thierry Baritaud, Head of Energy Recovery Systems, for Scuderia Ferrari during the Formula Affidabilità event on December 4th, 2012 in Maranello (Italy) which was attended by all suppliers of the Gestione Sportiva.

This award is also the result of five years of close cooperation and technical innovation with Scuderia Ferrari, to develop high performance Li-ion cells for the Team’s F1 car. The criteria for the award were innovation, performance, reliability, process and cost control, and contribution to Scuderia Ferrari’s results in the F1 championship.

The new engine regulations planned for 2014 will also see the Kinetic Energy Recovery System output increase with the introduction of a new power train and the use of a hybrid energy recovery system, with an integrated electric engine that will improve the vehicle’s hybridization.

“Saft is delighted to win this award for the work accomplished since 2009 with Scuderia Ferrari, both in developing the first KERS systems and providing the technical innovation to future generations of high-performance Li-ion technology that will be used in the new energy recovery system in 2014. The combination of Saft’s unique knowledge & expertise in electrochemistry with Scuderia Ferrari’s requirements for excellence has created outstanding innovative battery cell technology. In addition, these developments will be valuable in Saft’s work on high power Li-ion batteries for future generations of hybrid road vehicles,” said John Searle, President of the Saft Group.
