ALTe Powertrain Technologies and Manheim Announce Partnership to Install ALTe Powertrains In Fleet Vehicles

ALTe Powertrain Technologies, the Michigan-based developer of a Range Extended Electric Powertain, is pleased to announce an agreement with Manheim, the automotive industry’s leader in remarketing services, regarding the installation of ALTe powertrains in fleet vehicles. With this partnership, ALTe’s fleet customers will be able to take their vehicle to a Manheim operating location and Manheim will retrofit their light trucks and vans with an ALTe series plug-in electric hybrid powertrain. The fleet customer will then reinsert the vehicle back into its fleet and realize fuel economy improvements of up to 200 percent.

Electric Powertrain Company ALTe Forms Joint Venture with Inmatech, Inc. to Produce Hybrid Electric Storage Devices

ALTe Powertrain Technologies has signed a Letter of Intent to form a joint venture with Inmatech, Inc., a leading developer of advanced supercapacitors, to produce and sell hybrid electric storage (HES) devices composed of batteries, supercapacitors and control electronics. The blend of supercapacitors with lithium ion battery cells will enable longer life for the battery cells while reducing cost by as much as 40% for an equivalent size battery composed exclusively of lithium ion cells. The applications will range from automotive batteries to stationary grid power leveling devices.

Autotxt and Deutsche Telekom collaborate in M2M Telematics solutions for vehicle manufacturers

Autotxt and Telekom are now collaborating in the field of vehicle location and Telematics services. The Telematics specialist from Banbury in Great Britain is using, the M2M (M2M, machine-to-machine) services and the mobile radio communications network of Telekom for its vehicle anti-theft protection solutions. Autotxt operates from locations in Great Britain, Germany and China. As a supplier to the automotive industry, the company develops and produces OEM and original accessory installation modules for locating and tracking stolen vehicles using mobile data transmission. Autotxt equips vehicles from Aston Martin, Jaguar, Porsche and Land Rover. Application-specific M2M SIM cards from Telekom are used in the security solutions for vehicle manufacturers. Data exchange with the vehicles takes place over the mobile radio communications networks of Telekom and its roaming partners.

After more than three years of research work on intelligent driver assistance systems, seven vehicles demonstrating concrete results are to be presented in Borås (Sweden) on 21 and 22 June 2011.

New Automotive Centre of Excellence founded in Pune to foster automotive research and product development

NXP Semiconductors today inaugurated the Automotive Centre of Excellence (ACE) in Pune in association with the International Institute of Information Technology (I 2 IT). Located at I 2 IT Pune Campus,this Center of Excellence will provide unique infrastructure and collaboration of the industry and academia. The center will foster the innovation in the field of automotive electronics and would provide students, faculties, automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), automotive sub-assembly suppliers and industries in the region with expert technical support for product development and research activities to address market demands. In January 2011, NXP had announced an elaborate initiative called NXP ‘Anubhav’ to set up state-of-the-art labs at top engineering institutes in India and the Automotive Center of Excellence is a step in the direction. This is fifth lab as part of a plan to setup 20 labs across India under NXP “Anubhav” program.

Renesas Electronics to Sell its U.S. Semiconductor Wafer Fabrication Facility to TELEFUNKEN Semiconductors

Renesas Electronics Corporation and TELEFUNKEN Semiconductors GmbH & Co. KG today announced that they have signed an agreement under which Renesas Electronics America Inc. will sell its semiconductor wafer fabrication facility in Roseville, California, to TELEFUNKEN Semiconductors International LLC, a company that includes TELEFUNKEN Semiconductors GmbH. The sale price is approximately 53 million U.S. dollars, and the closing for the sale is planned for May 2, 2011. Wafra Capital Partners L.P. and Somerset Capital Group Ltd. helped TELEFUNKEN finance and facilitate the transaction and ATREG Inc. advised Renesas throughout the transaction.

Sysgo and OpenSynergy Join Forces For The Automotive Market

SYSGO AG and OpenSynergy GmbH have signed an exclusive cooperation agreement targeting the automotive market. They will join forces to provide carmakers with a software platform that already meets both avionics safety standards and AUTOSAR (Automotive Open System Architecture) requirements. Rolf Morich, general manager at OpenSynergy, said in a joint press release, “The high quality standards of SYSGO’s technology enable us to provide a universal operating system for carmakers and their suppliers, one that bridges the gap between car and consumer electronics while meeting the high safety standards of the avionics industry.”
