Toshiba Electronics Europe has announced a new family of ARM Cortex-M3 microcontrollers that has been specifically designed to support audio and visual connectivity and control in automotive applications.
Fully qualified in accordance with relevant automotive standards, the TMPM321F10, TMPM322F10, TMPM323F10 and TMPM324F10 devices are ideal for applications that require in-vehicle audio playback from iPods or MP3 players and external USB devices and SD cards. As well as supporting audio decoding, the fifth member of the family – the TMPM327C3D - can also manage visual I/O applications such as the display of images from a vehicle’s rear view camera as it implements an analogue CVBS decoder.

Toshiba’s new TMPM32xF10 microcontrollers combine the low-power, high-performance ARM Cortex-M3 core with 1Mbyte of NANO Flash memory, 64Kbytes of on-board RAM, a 10-bit analogue-to-digital converter and timers. Integrated connectivity options include: USB 2.0; synchronous serial bus interfaces; CAN functionality; a serial bus interface offering I2C operation; and general purpose serial I/O (SIO).

The TMPM327C3D has an ARM Cortex-M3 core operating at frequencies up to 144MHz and is available with 1.5MBytes or 3Mbytes of integrated eDRAM, allowing it to support respective display resolutions from typically WQVGA to WVGA without the need for external RAM. An additional 320Kbytes of SRAM is available for program and data storage. An integrated graphics engine, video input and digital RGB output further reduce external component count, while a special bus structure reduces CPU load during display and audio decoding. Built-in connectivity includes USB 2.0 High Speed Host Control, SDHC control, a 3-channel CVBS decoder, I2C and I2S interfaces.

The new microcontrollers are supplied in 100-pin QFP, 100-pin LQFP and 144-pin QFP formats depending on the specific device chosen. Operating voltage for each device is from 3.0V to 3.6V.
