On 23rd May 2017, SGS and HIKVISION signed a partnership to establish the 'SGS-HIKVISION Joint Lab' at the HIKVISION facility, in Hangzhou IoT Scientific Park. In addition, SGS has deployed its Safety Testing Automation Systems (STAS) at the laboratory and helped with accreditation as a IECEE Customer Testing Facility (CTF 2).

STAS allows increased automation of product safety testing procedures. It is an integrated system that allows manufacturers and testing and certification organisations to conduct tests more efficiently, automatically record test data during the processes.

Testing automation has several benefits over traditional testing methods, including:

  • Improved quality of test results through minimising or even eliminating manual operation/monitoring/recording of safety tests
  • Improved Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) ratings through the elimination of manual handling of dangerous products and automated operation of test procedures
  • Optimised equipment utilisation that leads to increased testing capacity and productivity
  • Digitised test data available for further analysis and utilisation

HIKVISION is China’s video surveillance product supplier. SGS has been providing Safety, EMC/RF, ITA and RSTS testing and certification for HIKVISION for a number of years and the installation of SGS’s STAS platform is the latest act of this partnership, establishing the 'SGS-HIKVISION Joint Lab'.

The Joint Lab will provide greater efficiency with regards to product safety testing and certification. It will also support the research and development of new testing technologies, provide training and technical support on the client side and devise further lab improvements. SGS is also committed to providing further support for HIKVISION via the development of additional automation solutions for new IoT, Internet of Things, products.

Recently, SGS has been working with HIKVISION on testing, certification and test method development for their newly-developed robots: AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) and UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle).

Alongside the deployment of the STAS platform, SGS also undertook certification of the HIKVISION’s laboratory as a Stage 2 Customer Testing Facilitate (CTF), in accordance to the IECEE CB-Scheme.

The HIKVISION facility is currently running four distinct STAS platforms, supervised by qualified HIKVISION and SGS engineers, in accordance with an approved test plan. Test data is then sent to SGS for the creation of test reports and for certification.

STAS is a suitable system to help manufacturers improve efficiency during safety testing procedures. In addition to the STAS systems deployed at HIKVISION, SGS has also deployed STAS systems in other facilities in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Finland.
