Gentex Corporation has announced that it is shipping interior auto-dimming rearview mirrors for Nissan's 2011 Leaf. The Leaf, a four-door hatchback being sold around the globe, is available in the U.S. with auto-dimming mirrors on both the SV and SL trim levels.
There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the development and introduction of Nissan's all-electric car over the past couple of years. Gentex is pleased that its auto-dimming mirror product line is a part of the first, full-electric, mass-produced vehicle, stated Enoch Jen, Gentex Senior Vice President.

The Leaf offers a base interior auto-dimming mirror as standard equipment on the SV trim level. The SL trim level features an auto-dimming mirror with HomeLink® (Johnson Control's fully integrated Wireless Control System).

The HomeLink feature consists of three buttons conveniently located on the face of the interior auto-dimming mirror that may be programmed to operate garage door openers, estate gates, security systems, home lighting, and other radio frequency-controlled devices.

Gentex auto-dimming mirrors automatically darken to reduce glare from the headlamps of vehicles approaching from the rear. The brighter the glare, the darker the mirrors become, making nighttime driving safer.

Founded in 1974, Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ: GNTX) is the leading supplier of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors and camera-based active safety systems to the global automotive industry. The Company also provides smoke alarms and signaling devices to the North American fire protection market, as well as dimmable aircraft windows for the commercial, business and general aviation markets. Based in Zeeland, Michigan, the international Company develops, manufactures and markets interior and exterior automatic-dimming automotive rearview mirrors that utilize proprietary electrochromic technology to dim in proportion to the amount of headlight glare from trailing vehicle headlamps. More than half of the Company's interior mirrors are sold with advanced electronic features, and more than 98 percent of the Company's revenues are derived from the sale of auto-dimming mirrors to nearly every major automaker in the world.
