The EtherRail connector is the first RJ45 on the market specifically designed for the field assembly of fire-resistant data cables in rail applications, claims Harting. The connector is designed for wires with an external diameter of up to 2mm and cables with diameters of up to 9mm.

Insulation displacement technology enables the four-pole RJ45 to be used with four-core Ha-VIS EtherRail cables in screened, star quad configurations. The star quad design guarantees data transfer up to 100Mb/s.

The connector is compatible with both the EtherRail 4xAWG22/7 cable, for laying in, and on, rail vehicles and buses and the flexible 4xAWG22/19 cable, which is mainly used as a linking connection between vehicles.

The Ha-VIS EtherRail cables fulfil fire-protection regulations for rail vehicles and buses and are suitable for applications involving extreme temperature requirements from -40 to +85°C.

The design and construction of the cables, incorporating irradiation crosslinking process technology, meet the requirements of the EN 45545 European standard for rail applications, and also pass comprehensive fire tests in accordance with DIN5510, UL1685.
