A high-performance coaxial connector, the Han Coax ETCS, has been introduced by HARTING. Designed for railway and harsh industrial applications, the connector's crimp flange incorporates an additional crimp barrel. This secures the screening braid permanently with high mechanical and electrical integrity, while also providing strain relief for the cable.

Designed to provide a reliable and robust interface for data transmission, the connector was originally developed for use in the European Train Control System (ETCS). In this system, signal communication between the rail vehicle and the track bed is controlled by a 'Eurobalise' system. Since this is safety related, components must operate with high reliability over the entire product life.

Used on board the trains and in stationary facilities, special Eurobalise coaxial cables have to, in turn, be equipped with appropriate interfaces at various positions. These positions can be equipped with a very reliable and robust interface with the Han Coax ETCS connectors.

Optimised for large conductor diameters up to 12mm, the connector includes a screened coaxial Han-E crimp contact which features an impedance of 50Ω. Fitting compactly into Han 3A and Han 3 HPR housing, the Han Coax ETCS connectors are suited for robust coaxial data interfaces.
