A high-efficiency converter targeted at the automotive and industrial markets, the A8585 has been announced by Allegro MicroSystems. The 2A buck regulator has been designed to provide the low power supply requirements of next-gen car audio and infotainment systems.

Typical applications for the A8585 will include automotive infotainment, instrumentation clusters, centre stack applications and advanced driver assistance systems. The device includes all control and protection circuitry required to produce a high current regulator with ±1.0% output voltage accuracy.

In PWM mode, the regulator employs current mode control to provide simple compensation, excellent stability and fast transient response. In low IQ mode, It employs PFM to consume less than 33μA from a 12V input while supplying 5.0V and 40μA. After start-up, the A8585 will operate down to at least 3.6VIN (VIN falling). Users can control mpde transition or it can occur automatically.

The A8585 is available now in a 4.9x6.0mm, 10-lead SOIC package.
