In response to the increasing trend towards virtual validation in the development of electronic control units (ECUs), dSPACE has launched its new, PC-based simulation platform VEOS.
VEOS makes it possible to simulate a wide range of different models − from function models to virtual ECUs, bus systems, and vehicle models − independently of any specific simulation hardware in early development stages.

Fast Progress with Early, PC-Based Simulation
Because it runs on standard PCs, VEOS gives function developers, software architects and ECU testers numerous new options for early virtual validation.
New functions, such as ones created in Simulink, can be integrated directly on a PC in an early project phase and tested for interactions.
In the design of complex controller strategies, VEOS acts as a constantly available virtual test bench with powerful engine and vehicle dynamics models.
Complex vehicle and environment models can be integrated with virtual ECUs to simulate an entire virtual vehicle and then test it on a PC.
ECU testers can prepare for hardware-in-the-loop simulation by creating and running the models and tests on a PC independently of the HIL system.

Systematic Extension to the dSPACE Tool Chain
VEOS works hand in hand with other dSPACE products to provide a complete, one-stop tool chain for the development and testing process. This means that tools and models which are commonly used in rapid control prototyping and HIL simulation can also be used in the virtual world. Similarly, layouts from HIL simulation can be reused in PC-based simulation with VEOS and vice versa. VEOS also provides open interfaces for users to connect and utilize their existing tools.

The VEOS simulation platform is our core product for the important issue of virtual validation, which OEMs and suppliers are currently pushing all over the world in order to perform a larger proportion of vehicle development in virtual scenarios,” said Dr. Rainer Otterbach, Head of Product Management, dSPACE GmbH. “dSPACE has been one of the driving forces behind this development from the very beginning and is supporting users in establishing new, more efficient development processes. The initial feedback from our customers tells us that we are on the right track.

Winner of the AEI Tech Award 2012
This year the publishers of Automotive Engineering International (AEI) presented the Tech Award to dSPACE VEOS. The AEI Tech Award is presented to the most innovative products exhibited every year at the SAE World Congress.
