Steering robot for vehicle testing uses custom motor
A brushless DC motor has been designed by Printed Motor Works for use in dynamic vehicle testing. The high power-density motor is part of a steering robot developed by Anthony Best Dynamics. The system helps provide a repeatable test environment for quantitative testing of road vehicles on the track. The compact design of the motor enables the assembly to be mounted behind the steering wheel, allowing normal driver operation between tests.

The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) sensors industry is expected to grow by 17% in 2017 as ever more countries see the importance of TPMS sensors. With a production volume of more than 300 million so far, Schrader is a key player in the worldwide TPMS market. Total demand is expected to reach 55 million vehicle sets. China might hold the biggest promise here, too. At the same time, the total market share of indirect systems (systems without their own sensors) is expected to shrink.

Real world driving emissions testing demonstrated at AQE
At the Air Quality & Emissions Show (AQE) that took place at Telford, UK, on 24th to 25th May 2017, Ricardo demonstrated its new real world driving emissions measurement service, and discussed the first results from its roadside vehicle monitoring research. Ricardo launched its vehicle emission measurement service in April 2017. The system uses absorption spectroscopy to monitor and record emissions such as NOx and NO2 from a vehicle’s exhaust as it passes by a roadside sensor.

R&S' T&M equipment adopted by Renesas for R&D, conformance test & production of IEEE 802.11p devices

Development of wireless, automated communications between traffic participants will continue in order to improve road safety. At present, various wireless technologies are under discussion for implementing V2X communications. IEEE 802.11p (11p) is one of the promising candidates. Rohde & Schwarz already supports the automotive industry with a wide range of T&M solutions for 11p. Renesas relies on these test solutions when developing, manufacturing and conformance testing its devices in line with IEEE 802.11p.
