New ultra-high performance electric sports car in development
The engineers at the University of Leicester have contributed to the development of a new, ultra-high performance, range extended, electric sports car project - HIPERCAR. Standing for High Performance Carbon Reduction, the project is destined for full release in 2019 and production by Ariel Motor Company in 2020 alongside the Atom, Nomad and Ace.

The winners of the UniFi Formula 1 aerodynamics championship
Two teams from the University of Leicester have taken the top two places in an international motorsport design and simulation competition. UniFi Racing is a unique project which exposes students to the complete design cycle of a modern open wheel race car. Working in teams, the students are given the opportunity to develop the aerodynamics of the car and optimise the setup of the car using industry standard vehicle dynamics software.

Autonomous interplanetary travel is closer than you think
An accurate method for spacecraft navigation takes a leap forward today as the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the University of Leicester publish a paper that reveals a spacecraft’s position in space in the direction of a particular pulsar can be calculated autonomously, using a small X-ray telescope on board the craft, to an accuracy of 2km.

University wins inaugural race in Formula 1 aerodynamics competition
A team from the University of Leicester has taken pride of place in an international Formula 1 aerodynamics competition. Team Mansell, supervised by Dr. Aldo Rona, senior lecturer in the Department of Engineering, and Professor Ivor Annetts, Royal Academy of Engineering Visiting Professor in Motorsport Aerodynamics, won the inaugural race of the UniFi Motorsport 2015/16 season.
