International Rectifier have today announced the release of a highly-compact and automotive-qualified gate drive IC, the AUIR08152S. Featuring high output current in excess of 10A, the new AUIR08152S gate drive IC shrinks system size and boosts performance in automotive and industrial high-power switching applications.

With the new AUIR08152S buffer gate driver, design engineers can use any standard low current gate driver, opto-coupler or CMOS isolator to drive large size IGBTs or MOSFETs in switching applications. The new gate drive IC efficiently boosts any low or under-powered gate drive into a high current drive system, and also replaces up to 10 discrete components for simpler, smaller and more robust system design.

Davide Giacomini, Director of Product Management and Applications, IR’s Automotive Products Business Unit, commented: “The AUIR08152S provides scalability and flexibility in design by boosting any standard gate drivers in automotive systems to offer a cost effective, compact and reliable solution for a wide range of high power switching applications.”

Featuring very low output impedance and power losses, the AUIR08152S is suited for use in harsh and high temperature environments. The AUIR08152S also features an integrated PMOS output in parallel to the high-side pull-up NMOS, enabling negative Vgs driving and continuous on-state capability. It also features OUTH and OUTL separated outputs for the selectio of two different external resistors for charging and discharging the gate. This is essential for controlling EMI and CdV/dT effects in high power motor driver and SMPS applications.

AEC-Q100 qualified, the buffer gate driver is supplied in an industry standard SO-8 package featuring an environmentally friendly, lead-free and RoHS compliant bill of materials. Available for production quantities in a compact 8-pin SOIC package, pricing for the AUIR08152S begins at US $0.99 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
