Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems has announced that it is sponsoring the TUfast Racing Team from Technical University Munich (TUM) for the Formula SAE / Formula Student racing competition. The team uses Panasonic’s Pyrolytic highly oriented Graphite Sheet (PGS), the thinnest thermal solution in the world, as well as the Grid-EYE infrared array thermal sensor.

Matthias Frey, Section Head, Communication, Panasonic Automotive & Industrial Systems, commented: “Panasonic is excited to support the TUfast Racing Team not only with some of our most innovative automotive products but especially with our know-how and experience within this field. It is fascinating to get an up-close view of how these young talents evolve their concept, implement it and design at the end their racing cars. We wish the E-Technology team and their eb016 every success and the best of luck!”

To measure the temperature of their tyres, TUfast Racing Team uses Grid-EYE infrared array thermal sensor. Grid-EYE features 64 thermopile elements in an 8x8 grid format that detect absolute surface temperature without any contact. By using this small sensor for their tyre temperature measurement, the team can ensure the best use of their tyres for the race. With its very high thermal conductivity, the PGS is used for effective cooling of the inverters in the race car.

“Without the sponsorship of companies like Panasonic a project like our TUfast Racing Team wouldn’t be possible. The company provides us with some of their most innovative products, like the thermal management solution PGS and the temperature sensor Grid-EYE. Both products are very well suited for our new race car and we are very grateful for Panasonic’s great technical support," added Franz Beck, Teammanager, TUfast Racing Team, TUM.
