Altia and Cypress Semiconductor has announced the Altia HMI code generation support for the Cypress Traveo Automotive Microcontroller (MCU) family. The combination provides automotive manufacturers with a cost efficient platform to deliver sophisticated graphics with advanced functionality for instrument clusters, HUDs and HVAC displays.

The Altia code generation solution for the Traveo family has been selected for production by multiple global automotive OEM and Tier 1 suppliers.

The Cypress Traveo family features 32-bit RISC microcontrollers with an ARM Cortex-R5 core with up to 240MHz performance that deliver high end graphics in single-chip MCU solutions.

The microcontrollers are equipped with an efficient 2D/3D graphic engine and integrate features for speed, memory savings, security, functional safety and high image quality.

Additionally, the Traveo family meets demanding requirements for performance and quality necessary for automotive applications.

“Our automotive customers are looking for efficient ways to differentiate their vehicles with visually appealing, intuitive graphics for their instrument clusters and head-up and HVAC displays,” said Mathias Braeuer, Marketing Director for the Automotive Business Unit at Cypress.

“Our collaboration with Altia has enabled Cypress to solve this problem for our customers with a complete display solution that delivers the dynamic user experience consumers want.”

Altia’s DeepScreen code generation target for the Cypress Traveo family is optimised to take full advantage of the resources available on chip. The combined Altia and Cypress Traveo solution delivers graphics for projects requiring lower system cost, low power silicon.

Cypress also offers a broad automotive portfolio with NOR flash memory, PSoC MCUs and Power Management ICs, which add value to the overall system solution.

To create an HMI for Traveo, Altia Design, a WYSIWYG user interface editor, pulls together a variety of graphic assets into a single model. Altia DeepScreen then generates production-ready C code that leverages the unique resources available on the microcontroller to deliver a pleasing user experience for production embedded displays.

"Because of the unique architecture of Altia DeepScreen-generated code, Altia helps companies deliver functionally safe, innovative graphical displays for compact cars. Cypress offers a top-notch automotive production hardware solution for these applications with the Traveo MCU family,” said Jason Williamson, Altia Vice President of Marketing.

“This cost effective hardware solution provides speed and a powerful graphics engine to deliver high performance graphics, as well as key features for safety and quality, which are imperative for safety-critical applications like automotive clusters and head-up displays.”
